Las Coloradas Castle

las coloradas castle

Las Coloradas Castle is a historic fortification located at the eastern end of Playa de las Coloradas, in the town of Playa Blanca. It dates back to the 18th century, when Spain was concerned about defending itself from pirate raids on the Canary coast. The castle was built on volcanic rocks and is characterised by its military architectural style.

The construction of the castle allowed the control of the bay and its use as a port of refuge, and thus became an important fortress for the defence of the island. Today, it’s used as a cultural space and for various activities and events.

In short, it’s an architectural and historical jewel located on the south coast of Lanzarote which, in addition to its historical interest, offers a spectacular natural landscape of sea and mountains to its visitors.
