The castle was built on volcanic rocks and is characterised by its military architectural style.
The construction of the castle allowed the control of the bay and its use as a port of refuge, and thus became an important fortress for the defence of the island. Today, it’s used as a cultural space and for various activities and events.

Montaña Roja Volcano

One of the most popular routes to visit the Montaña Roja volcano is the so-called “volcano route”, which runs around the perimeter of the mountain along a signposted path and offers spectacular panoramic views of the sea and the entire coastal area of Playa Blanca.
